NADIA PETROVA COMMITS TO SONY ERICSSON OPEN

March 13, 2011 – MIAMI – Nadia Petrova announced Sunday that she has committed to the singles and doubles draws of the Sony Ericsson Open, which will be contested in her hometown here beginning March 21.  Last year, Petrova was a finalist in the doubles draw with partner Samantha Stosur, losing an epic final match 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.

The tournament will serve as a homecoming of sorts for Petrova, who plays out of Midtown Athletic Club in nearby Weston. “There are many things that are special about the Sony Ericsson, including the great crowds that come to watch us play,” she said.  “I’m looking forward to coming home and playing in front of the great tennis fans in South Florida.”

Widely considered as professional tennis’ Fifth Major, The Sony Ericsson traditionally boasts one of the strongest fields of the entire year.  Seventy-four of the top 75 ranked players on the WTA Tour have committed to the two-week tournament, the last outdoor hard-court event for several weeks.
